In 2021, SAW was involved in the foyer refurbishment project of the 5-star InterContinental Hotel in St. Julian’s, Malta. Having opened its doors more than 15 years ago, the hotel had already undergone several projects involving the upgrade of different parts of the building before the refurbishment of the hotel entrance. SAW has partnered with the hotel multiple times throughout its history, and the team was chosen as the partner for this significant project which would impact guests’ first impression of the hotel.
The full refurbishment of the foyer was completed within two months, but the hotel was able to keep operating from the same foyer while works were still ongoing.
The full refurbishment of the foyer was completed within two months, but the hotel was able to keep operating from the same foyer while works were still ongoing. The project was divided into phases and work was completed on one part of the reception before moving to the next part in order to minimise downtime.
Although the foyer was given a brand-new look, certain elements from the previous design were preserved and refinished to match the upgraded style while reducing costs. New work was also carried out on the reception area and counters, which mainly included panelling and counters made from veneer and ribbed American walnut.
